Quiz 3 Flashcards
When do you Prompt?
When the respondent only gives one response
How many prompts are allowed by card?
1 per card
When do you Pull?
With the 4th response to a card.
What do you say when you need to give a prompt during the administration phase?
“Try to give two responses or maybe three, to each card.”
What do you say when you need to pull?
Okay, that’s good. Remember; try to give two responses to each card; maybe three.”
Or
“Thanks, that’s fine. Remember, we just need two or maybe three responses for each.”
What is the purpose of the clarification phase?
To ensure that the coding of the response is as accurate as possible.
ALSO
The code is designed to represent what the subject perceived at the time the response was delivered.
What is the purpose of the clarification phase?
To resolve coding ambiguities
How would you introduce the Clarification phase to the respondent?
“Okay, good. Now we are going to start the final
step. While looking at the cards I want to review your
responses with you to clarify what it is that you saw
and how you saw it. So, we will look at the cards one
by one. I will read your responses back to you and I
will want to know where on the card you were
looking and what about the inkblot made it look like
that to you. Does that make sense.”
What does “o” mean?
Ordinary: Form fit that is both relatively frequent and accurate
What does “u” mean?
Form fit that is of intermediate frequency or accuracy or both
What does “-“ mean?
Form fit that is infrequent and inaccurate
What does “n” mean?
None: Response does not contain an object with a definite form or outline
What is the key Clarification technique/ phrase when the respondent says,”And the softness? And the depth?
“And the”
What is the key Clarification technique/ phrase when the respondent says “You said it was rough? You said it
was pretty?”
“You Said it was”
What is the key Clarification technique/ phrase when the respondent says, “Help me see the fur as you do. Help
me see the hollow eyes as you do.”
“Help me see the (keyword) as you do.”
What is the key Clarification technique/ phrase when the respondent says, “What makes it look bright? What
makes it look delicate?”
“What makes it look (keyword)?”
What if the response is not in the FQ tables?
- if not in the FQ tables, then extrapolate from like shapes and like areas found in the FQ tables
-Systematic extrapolation from the FQ tables is preferable to independent coder judgment
- All FQ extrapolations must share shape and spatial orientation
- Extrapolate using response in its entirety

What is FC
Form Color: Color contributes to a response object, but form is dominate
What is CF
Color Form: dominant in a response object but form contributes
What is C
No form: color determines a response object without form playing a role
What is C’
Achromatic color: Black, grey, or white is coded for presence or absence
What is Y
Diffuse Shading: The light and dark gradations of ink contribute to a response
What is V
Vista: When the light and dark gradations of ink give rise to a perception of depth or dimensionality
What is T
Texture: the light and dark gradations of ink give rise to a tactile quality (soft, furry, wet, or cold).
Can Sy and Vg be coded together?
Yes! (e.g., Blood and Oil mixing together).
Is “a bird getting in that guy’s head” a Sy response?
Yes!
