Q

Ways to aviod using the quadratic formula

A
  • if k is small then you can assume x is small
  • take a square root on both sides if there is a perfect square
  • if k is large then assume the reaction goes all the way to products then back to reactants a little bit and assume k is small
  • Successive approximation: assume x is smal, with the approximated x put it back into the equation and solve again

Le chatelier’s principle

A

the system trys to undo what was done to it
* There will be no change in the equilibrium if there is the same # of molecues on both sides

Q

Endothermic reaction

A
  • heat is absorbed
  • ΔH>0
  • Heat + A -> B
  • Raise the temp = reaction goes twards products
  • lower the temp = reaction goes twards reactants
17
Q

Exothermic Reaction

A
  • Heat is prododuced
  • ΔH<0
  • A -> B+Heat
  • Raise the temp = reaction goes twards reactants
  • Lower the temp = reaction goes twards products
18
Q

Molar solubility

A

How many grams dissolve in a ceritan amount
* commonly 1L or 100mL

19
Q

common ion effect

A

the shift in the position of an equilibrium casued by the addition of an ion taking part in the reaction

20
Q

Ksp>Q

A

No precipitate will form reaction will go to products to reach equilibrium

21
Q

Ksp<Q

A

Precipitate will form, reaction will go towards reactants to reach equilibrium
