- 1842, succeeded in getting legislation passed that barred boys under 10 and women from woking in the mines

- English Baptist who devoted his life to taking the gospel to India
- Under educated and poor but educated himself to become the father of missions
- He founded Serampore College
- Translated the Bible in 6 languages
- Translated parts of the Bible in 29 other languages
- “Expect great things! Attempt great things”
- Worked in India for 41 years

- Before conversion he was a cynical actor who rejected faith, she was town belle
- powerful conversion
- Sailed to India 13 days after they got married
- Went welcome in India by Britain empire went to Burma
- They found it dark and cheerless and unpromising
- Ann suffered from smallpox
- Adoniram suffered from sever depression as a result of losing his wife and child
- When he recovered he translated the Bible in Burmese
David Livingstone
- He was a seeker of 1,000 villages where no missionary had been
- He was also a Cartographer
- Social activist who wanted to rid the slave trade in Africa
- He traveled walking from east to west Africa
- When he died his heart was buried in Africa
J. Hudson Taylor
- He wanted to become Chinese
- Fonder of the China Inland Mission
- This organization is still in existence and known as Overseas Missionary Fellowship
- At age 4 he wanted to become a missionary to China
- He tried to become Chinese by dying his hair black, donned a false pigtail and Chinese spectacles and baggy clothing
