Quiz 2 Flashcards
2.C: The forearm and hand (Lecture 6 and 7) • 2.D Joints of the upper limb (Lecture 8) Part 3 – Muscles of the Upper Limb • 3.A: Introduction to myology (Lecture 9) • 3.B: Superficial muscles of the back and trunk (Lecture 10 and 11)
What are the 2 bones of the forearm
Ulna and Radius
How are the ulna and radius connected?
They are connected by three different joints and a tight connective tissue band called the interosseous membrane
Which bone is more medial in the forearm?
The Ulna
Which bone is longer and more stabilizing in the forearm?
the Ulna is the longer and stabilizing bone
what are the 3 prominent projections on the proximal end of the Ulna?
Olecranon, Coronoid Process & Ulnar Tuberosity
What is the name of the notch that forms between the olecranon and coronoid process of the ulna?
Trochlear Notch
What is the purpose of the radial notch of the ulna?
Receives the racial head and form the proximal ratio-ulnar joint
What is the shape of the shaft of the ulna?
Shaft of the ulna is thick and cylindrical
Which bone is shorter and more mobile in the forearm?
Radius is the shorter and more mobile bone
What is the shape of the proximal end of the radius?
The proximal end of the raised has a short, rounded head, a neck and a tuberosity
What type ofe of joint is formed by the articulation between the radial head and the capitulum of the humerus?
A hinge joint, associated with movements at the elbow. This is known as the proximal radio-ulnar joint
What is the location and function of the radial styloid process?
The radial styloid process is located at the distal end of the radius and is adjacent to the dial ratio - ulnar joint. It is larger than the ulnar styloid process
What is the dorsal tubercle of the radius
The dorsal tubercle is a raised ridge of bone found on the posterior surface of the distal end of the radius
What type of joint is the Sternoclavicular Joint
It Is a Saddle synovial joint. Bi Laxial 2 degrees of freedom . “Fibrocartilaginous disc
Name the ligaments associated with the sternoclavicular Joint
Interclavicular ligament, anterior and posterior seternoclavicular ligaments, Costoclavicluar
What are the 4 bones in the Proximal row of the carpal bones of the hand
Scaphoid - largest bone of the proximal bone, located on the most lateral
Lunate - moon shape, located proximally with the radius and inbetween the scaphoid & triquetral bone
Triquetrum- Articulates proximally with the articular disc of the distal radio-ulnar joint
Pisiform - Small, pea shaped bone , on the palmar surface most medial
What are the 4 bones in the Distal row of the carpal bones of the hand
Trapezium - Articulates with the 1st metacarpal, scaphoid and trapezoid bones
Trapezoid- Articulates with the 2nd metacarpal, trapezium, capitate and scaphoid bones. Wedge- shape
Capitate- Head shape bone, largest bone is the carpus (largest bone OVERALL) articulates with the 3rd metacarpal
Hamate- Wedge - shape bone , medial side articulates with the 4th and 5th metacarpals
Movements of the Elbow Joint
Classification, Movement
The Elbow joint is classified as a hinge joint with Flexion and Extension actions
Key components of: Radial Collateral Ligament & Ulnar Collateral Ligament
RCL- Lateral epicondyle , supports joint laterally and is intrinsic . Resist excess varus force
NCL- Medial epicondyle to coronoid process & olecranon. Supports joint medially & is intrinsic . Resist excess valgus
How many joints are there between the radius and the ulna, and what are they?
There are 3 :
Proximal Radio-Ulnar Joint - Pivot type of synovial. Movements are supination and pronation
Sternoclavicular joint , Articulating surfaces, type of joint, movements
AS: Facet on the medial end of the clavicle, clavicular notch of the manubrium
TOJ: Saddle, 2 degrees of freedom
M: Protraction/retraction, elevation/depression and a form of circumduction
Fibrocartilaginous Disc: Definition
The function of the dic is to enhance the congruency of the joint
What are the ligaments in the wrist
Palmar Radiocarpal ligament s
Dorsal radoiocarpal ligaments
Ulnar collateral ligaments - medial
radial collateral ligament - lateral
Transverse carpal ligament (Flexor Retinaculum
Which carpal bone articulates with the radius
Lunate
