What did he do after the Revolution?

A

After fighting in the Revolutionary War, Jackson studied law in NC before becoming a wealthy lawyer/judge in Tennessee. Elected to Congress in his 20s.

A

A

A

Calhoun- fought against tariff and said that a state had the right to nullify a law that they thought was unconstitutional.
Webster- fought against nullification by state because it would further separate the states.

A

SC passed declaring the tariff illegal and threatening to withdraw from the Union. Jackson, furious, offered a compromise. Since nobody else stood with SC, they backed down.

NA removal in the Northwest

A

1832- Saux and Fox returned to Illinois under Black Hawk. NA defeated some settlers and retreated to Wisconsin. American troops searched for them and found them months later. NA defeated at the battle of Bad Axe and Black Hawk surrendered, taking the NA resistance with him.
