Palpation
The physician uses his/her hands and fingers to feel the body, can provide information on skin texture and temperature. Can be used to feel underlying structures, for finding sensitive spots etc. Understanding of normal anatomy crucial
Percussion
Tapping the fingers or hand to determine the density of underlying tissues. If the lungs are filled with fluid the chest will sound more dense than normal compared to when they have air.
Auscultation
Listening to body sounds, usually through a stethoscope
