Right Hypochondriac Region (Location and Organs)
Right beneath cartilage of rib (contains right lobe of the liver)
Epigastric Region
Adjacent to the right and left hypochondriac region ( in the middle) contains both lobes of the liver and a portion of the stomach
Left Hypochondriac Region
Lateral to the epigastric region, superior to the left lumbar region, contains the spleen, part of stomach
Right Lumbar
Inferior to the right hypochondriac region and lateral to the umbilical region, houses the ascending colon, large intestine, and some small intestine
Umbilical Region
(Belly Button) adjacent to the left and right lumbar regions, houses the small intestine
Left Lumbar
Lateral to the umbilical region, houses the descending colon, large intestine
Right inguinal Region
(Right Iliac Region), Inferior to the right lumbar region, houses the cecum and the appendix
Hypogastric region
(Pubic Region), inferior to the umbilical region, houses the urinary bladder
Left Inguinal Region
(Left Iliac) inferior to the left lumbar region
The greater Omentum
Double fold of the serous membrane that contains fatty tissue and covers some abdominal organs
Subcostal Line
Top horizontal line in the 9 region abdominopelvic designation. Drawn inferior to the right and left lateral margins of the ribs.
Transtubercular line
Bottom Horizontal line, intersects the top of the right and left hip bones
Midclavicular lines
Vertical lines drawn through the midpoint of the clavicles just medial to the nipples.
9 region method vs 4 Region Method
9 region method more widely used for anatomical studies to determine organ location; quadrants are used by clinicians for describing the state of abdominopelvic pain, tumor, injury, or other abnormality
