Quantitative interviews and Statistics Flashcards
What is correlation?
An approach to the analysis of relationships between variables
- seeks to assess the strength of the relationship between variables
What is causation?
A concern with establishing causal connections between variables
What is a univariate analysis?
Analysing one variable at a time
What is a bivariate analysis?
Analysing relation between two variables
What is a multivariate analysis?
Analysing relations between three or ore variables
What are descriptive statistics?
Summaries characteristics of a dataset
What are inferential statistics?
Allows for hypothesis testing and assessment of generalisability of dataset
What are the types of categorical variables?
- Binary
- Nominal
- Ordinal
What are the types of continuous variables?
- Interval
- Ratio
What are binary variables?
Only two different categories
e.g. dead or alive
What are nominal variables?
More than two different categories
e.g. Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish…
What are ordinal variables?
- More than two different categories
- Order is important
e.g. Likert scale
What are interval variables?
- More than two different scores
- Order is important
- Distance between categories is the same
e.g. temperature in Celsius
What are ratio variables?
- More than two different scores
- Order is important
- Distance between categories is the same
- Meaningful zero point
e.g. age, income, reaction time
