what is quality assurance?
consists of inspection of other peoples work and the product itself after production has taken place
designed to detect and remove components or products which fall below predetermined targets
inspections is carried out during the production process
what is quality control?
it aims to help to achieve quality by analysing and planning every process to ensure that products are produced right first time
what is self checking inspection?
quality control department which was responsible for taking products off the production line and testing them
disadvantages of self checking inspection
employees felt that quality was someone else’s responsibility
there was a time lag between occurrence and detection of a problem
it was possible for a faulty batch to pass through the production process
there was an acceptable defect rate
what is ISO 9000?
this is the recognition refers to the quality of an entire business
it gives quality assurance in design, development, production, installation and servicing and its suitable for businesses which have a large element of design in their operations
it covers the issues including the production of a quality manual and the methods of measuring quality aganist set targets
advantages of IOS 9000 for a business?
gain competitive advantages as a potential customers will be attracted to the firms quality status, lead to increased profits
increase a firms efficiency as they will be examining and improving systems methods and procedures to achieve the award
motivate staff and encourage them to get things right the first time
as improving quality the firm will make substantial savings from unsatisfactory products
record and investigate all quality failure and customer complaints to make sure they do not reoccur
give a clear signal to customers that they are taking measures to improve quality, lead to increase sales
produce a documented system for recording and satisfying the training needs of new existing staff regarding quality
what does ISO 9000 not guarantee
the product will be of high quality or superior compared to others
it only indicates that consistent quality procedures are being implemented
disadvantages of IOS 9000 in a business
achieving the award can be costly in terms of the management time and paperwork involved
involves considerable target setting and quotative analysis so it may be demotivating for employees
it may also slow down the production process as more procudures have to be followed and data anaylsed
