what do you need be to be qualified for jury service
aged between 18-65
be registered to vote in the uk
have li8ved in the uk for atleast 5 years after 13th birthday

people who are mentally disordered are disqualified from jury service under the criminal justice act 2003 this includes if they are
a resident in hospital/ similar institution for their condition or reguarky attend for treatment
under guardianship under s.7 of the mental health act 1983

criminals who have recieved a prison sentence of 5 years or more are permenantly disqualified from sitting on a jury
a criminal who has served a shorter custodial sentence or community sentence will be disqualified from jury service 10 years
those who are on bail are disqualified
if a person fails to disclose that they are disqualified and turns up to jury service they get 5000 pound fine

a person may discharged for a lack of capacity to cope with a trial
this wold include a person who does not understand english and blind person as they are unable to see evidence those who are deaf and need a sighn language interpreter cannot sit as jurors as there cant be 13 people in jury room
excused
since the criminal justice act 2003 judges lawers police tc now must serve aremed forces doctors pharmacists can be granted an excusal at the courts discretion

any person with problems that would make it difficult to be a juror can make application the jury central summons bureau they must undertake jury service within 12 months of the original summons
