What law are domesticated dogs protected under?
Animal Welfare Act 2006. It states that the person responsible for the dog is always the owner. A dog walker can also be regarded as responsible and can be held criminally liable for any offences under this Act.
In order for the dog to feel more comfortable with the dog walker, what can the dog walker do?
The walker can arrange to meet with the dog and the dog’s owner prior to the walk. This allows the dog to become familiar with being around the walker. It also allows the walker to learn about the dog’s needs and see what the dog’s personality is like.
What should a walker consider with any planned walks?
The age, fitness, health and behaviour of the dog.
Can a walker use a muzzle?
Only if necessary and only with the owner’s permission. It also must be appropriately well-fitted and secure.
