Q/A Flashcards
Q: What tissue makes up the neoplastic portion of the fibroadenoma?
Ans: Fibroadenomas are new growths of glandular and stromal tissues. Cytogenetic studies have shown that in some cases only the fibrous (stromal) component is clonal. These tumors appear to arise from the specialized intralobular stroma.
At what age do fibroadenomas usually occur?
Ans: They occur at any age within the reproductive period of life, but they are somewhat more common between 20 and 40 years old
Just as NUCLEOLI differentiate benign from malignant prostate glands, what differentiates benign from malignant smooth muscle tumors?
Ans: MITOSES per high power fields. NOT pleomorphism, NOT hyperchromasia, NOT nuclear size, But MITOSES (>5per 10 fields x400, but less than 10, if more than 10 -leiomyosarcoma)!!!
