What is the age of presentation for pyloric stenosis
First few weeks of life
Presentation of pyloric stenosis
Hungry baby which is thin, pale, and generally failing to thrive.
Key feature of vomiting in pyloric stenosis
Projectile vomiting
On examination what is felt in pyloric stenosis
Firm round mass felt in the upper abdomen that feels like a large olive caused by the hypertrophic muscle of pylorus
Blood gas in baby with pyloric stenosis
Hypocholoraemic hypokalaemic metabolic alkalosis as baby is vomiting the hydrochloric acid from the stomach
Diagnosis of pyloric stenosis
Abdominal US to visualise thickened pylorus
Management of pyloric stenosis
Lap pyloromyotomy where an incision is made in the smooth muscle of the pylorus to widen the canal
