Push vs Pull Information Flashcards
Final Exam Review
Push
Data or content that is sent to users without them having to request it. Examples include email newsletters, app notifications, software updates, and real-time alerts. Push strategies are useful for proactive communication, like warning systems or promotional marketing.
Pull
Data that users request or seek out themselves. Examples include conducting a search on Google, querying a database, or visiting and browising a webpage. Pull systems give users control over what and when they access information, supporting personalization and exploration.
Drill Down
A technique used in data analysis and reporting that allows users to view data at increasing levels of detail. For example, from yearly sales → to quarterly → to monthly → to daily → to store-level. Drill-down supports investigative analysis and helps users pinpoint trends or issues.
Roll-up
The opposite of drill-down. It summarizes or aggregates data to show higher-level patterns or summaries. For example, city → state → country sales. Roll-up is useful for generating summary reports and dashboard metrics.
Purpose of Drill Down vs Roll up
These tools are essential in OLAP systems for multidimensional data analysis, enabling flexibility in exploring data from general to specific (drill-down) or from specific to general (roll-up).
