What is the purposive approach?
A
Judge will decide what the purpose of the act was when deciding the meaning of words, they look at the context of the act and considerations at that time, relies heavily on extrinsic aid. Shown in Jones v Tower Boot with black employee getting bullies, Tesco v Brent with selling 14yo 18 game and in R v Reg General with birth certificate & murderer.
