What is the EU?
A
Europe union founded in 1957 and we joined in 1973, the main institutions are:
- eu council, law making body
- eu commission, proposes new leg
- eu parliament, represents citizens
- CJEU, preserves treaties, their roles are taking action against member states eg Re Tachographs and Preliminary rulings eg R v Bouchereau.

Sources of EU law
A
- treaties, all treaties become Eu law and are directly applicable. Direct effect rely on UK courts, Vertical direct effect sue uk/public bodies under Eu law, Horizontal direct effect use Eu leg against another person eg Van Dunn v Home Office
- regulations, issued by council of eu, binding in every respect and directly applicable to each member state eg Re Tachographs
- directives, issued by Eu council to harmonise laws over member states, all introduce their own laws eg UK with si.
