Muslim Attitudes towards Sex

- Only within marriage
- Married partners are expected to meet each others needs, including sexual needs (it is considered an act of worship)
- sex outside marriage is wrong
- As it is an act of worship it may only take place between a married couple
- Both men and women should dress modestly to avoid lustful thoughts and behaviour before and outside of marriage
- Sometimes unmarried couples will have chaperones when meeting

This is where a person does not have any sexual relationships until marriage. In traditional beliefs people should remain chaste before marriage.

Celibacy
A
When a person decides never to have a sexual relationship.
- Monks, nuns and priests take a vow of celibacy, It is made as a positive choice to dedicate one’s life to the service of God
- In Islam they teach that an adult should marry in order to have a companion and that no one needs to live a celibate lifestyle.
