Catholic Christian attitudes to Gender Equality
- Everyone is made in God’s image, men and women
- Men and women are equal and should be treated as such
- Women can have an active role in the church but cannot lead
- Women can not be ordained as priests
(Jesus’ disciples were all male) - The priest is a symbol of Jesus as a male
- WOMEN STILL HAVE AN IMPORTANT ROLE
Protestant Christian attitudes to Gender Equality
- Everyone is made in God’s image
- Men and women are equal so should be treated as such
- Jesus had women followers
- they allow for women to become priests and bishops
Islamic attitudes to Gender Equality
- In the Qur’an it suggests that Allah created both men and women equally
- They do not allow for women Imams, although it does not specify in the Qur’an (based on tradition)

ISLAM - SOURCE OF WISDOM FOR WOMEN IN WORSHIP
“if a women leads a man or men in congregational prayer, the prayer of the men is invalid.” - QUR’AN 9:71

“whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a believer - those will enter Paradise.” - QUR’AN 40:40

“who created you from one soul and created from it its mate.” - QUR’AN 4:1
