What is Genesys Communicate?
Includes the Genesys Collaborate features such as workspace, directory, chat and video chat. It also includes Telephony features such as handling calls, voicemail, group and conference calls. There also Architect features such as inbound, outbound, and etc.
What are the 4 IP-based Communications?
Pack-based Network, VoIP, PSTN, and Circuit Switch Network
Circuit-Switched Network
Connection oriented network where the communication network between two nodes/devices need to be setup before they can communicate. The entire call is transferred through the network.
Packet-based Network
Data is communicated is broken into packets that contains control information including the source that sent it to address destination. Network router devise are used to find the packets destination.
PSTN
Refer to as Public Switched Telephone Network. A circuit-switched network where telephony provide use dedicated circuits and switches across centralized points. Most providers have switch to packet based network but still refer to as PTSN when using a provider network.
VoIP (IP Telephony)
A VoIP call extends between a source and destination across a IP packet switched network. It uses two primary source of communication signaling and media/RTP.
What is signaling?
Negotiate the call between all devices that are involved. The signaling process must occur between endpoints then acknowledged that they are ready for the call. Genesys uses SIP to handle their signaling.
What is Media?
Transmission of data packets used to communicate call audio or between endpoint devices. Genesys uses RTP that make use of UDP to transport data across the network.
How many signal and media stream for VoIP are used?
For voice call it uses two signal and media stream. One from original party to destination and the other from destination to original.
What is an external trunk?
A communication circuit between the PSTN and Edge Group.
What are the three external trunk?
BYOC Carrier, BYOC PBX, and External SIP
BYOC Carrier trunk
The external trunk is connected to a cloud or on premise carrier
BYOC PBX trunk
External trunk is connected to the customer PBX
External SIP trunk
External network connected to a sip provider
Edge Group
Edges within a group that is connected with each other and have access to trunks other edges uses. Edge group may be on premise or cloud based.
