How is an RAPD noticed on the affected side?

A

Swinging light test - when light is shone in eye, both should constrict briskly, then relax a little each time the light is swung to them
When light is swung across to affected side, both pupils dilate

A

Pathology localised to visual pathway before the chiasm (optic nerve or retina)

What pathologies could cause an RAPD?

A

Large retinal detachment
Central retinal arterty or ischaemic central retinal vein occlusion
Optic nerve ischaemia
Optic neuritis, compression or asymmetric glaucoma
