What are the 2 main types of pumps?
Dynamic displacement.
Positive displacement.
Compare positive and dynamic displacement pumps.
Dynamic- high volume, low pressure.
Positive- low volume, high pressure.
What are two methods of a positive displacement pump to displace fluid?
Reciprocating- up and down movement eg piston.
Rotaty- round and round movement eg gear.
What is Bernoulli’s Theorem?
As the speed of a fluid increases, the pressure decreases. As the speed of a fluid decreases, the pressure increases.
Give two examples of a dynamic displacement pump.
Centrifugal and axial.
What do electric motors do?
Convert electrical energy into mechanical motion. The motor can drive the pumps in a system.
