Pressure Gauges And System Indicators Flashcards
Why are pressue gauges and system indicators used?
To enable the system to be monitored to ensure it is running correctly, and to identify faults in the system.
Name 5 system indicators in use.
Pressure gauge & vacuum gauge. Tachometers. Thermometers. Flow meters. Voltage meters.
What do nanometers do?
Give a visual representation of pressure and vacuum. If levels are equal, no pressure difference is present.
What do tachometers do?
Measures the speed of a moving body.
Normally measures a rotating shaft.
Can show speed of fuel through a system.
Name 3 types of thermometers.
Fixed brass.
Standard pocket.
Clock/dial face.
What is a thermometer pocket?
A plug which is screwed into a hole in a system. The plug is removed and a thermometer is inserted to take a reading.
In order to take a reading, transmission fluid (usually oil) is put in the pocket.
What does a voltage meter do?
Measures potential difference in an electrical circuit.
