Subclavian A. pulse
In posterior triangle of neck as it lies superficially here
Brachial A. pulse
– Middle of arm - medial to humerus
– In cubital fossa medial to biceps brachii tendon
Radial Pulse
- Lateral to Flexor Carpi Radialis tendon
- Floor of anatomical snuffbox
Ulnar pulse
- Can be felt deep to tendon of flexor carpi ulnaris - may be hard to palpate as lateral border of the tendon of the muscle covers it
Axillary pulse
In the armpit
Femoral artery pulse
At the mid-inguinal point
– Midway between line from the ASIS to the pubic symphysis
Popliteal pulse
In the pop. fossa
difficult to palpate
Ask patient to passively flex the knee
Insert fingertips deep into the fossa
Posterior Tibial A. pulse
Midway between medial malleolus and heel
Slightly behind and below the medial malleolus
Dorsalis pedis A pulse
Between medial and lateral malleolus
Between Extensor hallucis longus tendon and Extensor dig. tendon to 2nd toe
