Anastomoses Flashcards
Which anastomosis is used if the axillary artery is blocked?
–Anastomosis between the subclavian A (Suprascapular branch) and the Axillary A. (subscapular and the posterior circumflex humeral branches).
–If there’s narrowing due to atherosclerosis of the Axillary artery or ligation of the axillary A during surgery then this anastomosis acts as a bypass.
Anterior and post. circumflex humeral arteries
-These are branches of the axillary artery
-They wrap around the surgical neck of the humerus and anastomose here
-Supply the shoulder joint
Where does the posterior interosseous artery terminate? What artery does it branch from?
– Terminates by joining the anastomosis at the wrist
– Branches off from the common interosseous branch of the ulnar artery.
The ulnar artery gives rise to the common interosseous branch –> divides into anterior and posterior interosseous –> posterior intero. A. located in post. compartment of forearm –> runs btwn superficial and deep muscles –> accompanied by post. intero. branch of radial nerve –> terminates by joining anastomosis at wrist
** The ant. intero. A. travels anteriorly on the intero. memb and terminates by going posteriorly into the post. interos. artery by piercing the interos. memb.
What anastomoses do the branches of the radial artery contribute to?
What palmar arch does one of the branches of the radial A. contribute to? and which branch?
palmar arches – superficial and deep
Describe process of arterial blood sampling from the radial artery and its relationship with anastomoses of the palmar arches
which arteries are involved in the blood supply thru the anastomosis at the elbow joint?
Where do two of the branches of the profunda fem. anastomose
Branches:
med. circ. fem. A.
lat. circ. fem. A.
Around the uppermost shaft of the femur
Main blood supply to hip joint?
Branches of profunda fem:
- Med. circ. fem. A and Lat. circ. fem. A.
Also the acetabular branch of the obturator artery
Anastomosis arnd hip joint - which arteries are involved?
Medial and lateral circum. fem arteries
1st perforating branch of profunda femoris
Inferior gluteal artery
Blood supply to elbow joint by?
By anastomosis formed between branches of Brachial, profunda brachii and radial and ulnar arteries
