Pulmonology Flashcards
What is the pleurae?
-membranous serous sac (visceral pleura) covers each -lung
-abnormalities:
pneumothorax- pleural space contains air
hemothorx- pleural space contains blood
pus fills pleural
increased amounts of serous fluid
*cause compression of lung and cause respiratory distress
How many lobes does the R lung have?
3
- upper
- middle
- lower
Describe the upper R lobe
has 3 sections
Apical- top
Anterior
Posterior
Describe the middle R lobe
has 2 sections
- medial
- lateral
Describe the lower R lobe
has 5 sections
- superior
- anterior basal
- lateral basal
- posterior basal
- medial basal
Describe the L lung
has 2 lobes
Describe the upper L lobe
has 4 sections
- Apical posterior
- Anterior medial basal
- lateral basal
- posterior basal
Describe the lower L lobe
has 4 sections
- Superior
- Anterior medial basal
- lateral basal
- posterior basal
Describe the pulmonary circulation
carries deoxygenated blood from hear to lungs
-R and L pulmonary arteries–>lobar arteries–>arterioles–>and capillaries–>veinules–>veins
Describe bronchial circulation
- broncial arteriers directly drain into bronchial veins
- portion of circulatory system that supplies oxygenated blood to bronchi and connective tissue via the bronchial arteries which drain directly into the bronchial veins
What controls breathing?
-largely involuntary
-Voluntary component:
central respiratory control center in brainstem
peripheral receptors in lungs, airways, chest wall, and blood vessels
