Cardiology Flashcards
Where do the coronary arteries originate?
- R and L originate from the aorta
- L anterior descending artery from the L Coronary artery
- Posterior descending artery from the circumflex artery which comes from the L coronary artery
What does the R Coronary artery supply?
- R atrium
- R ventricle
- bottom of L ventricle
- back of septum
What does the L coronary artery supply?
divides into:
- circumflex artery
- L anterior descending artery
What does the L anterior descending artery supply?
- front and bottom of the L ventricle
- front of the septum
What does the posterior descending artery supply?
-back of L atrium and L ventricle
Describe heart innervation
SA node- intrinsic cardiac automaticity
-affected by epi and norepi (sympathetic) = increase HR and greater force of contraction
-affected by Ach (parasympathetic) = decrease HR
AV node- intrinsic cardiac automaticity
don’t need
What is the SA node known as?
the normal pacemaker of the heart
What is the bundle of His?
-cardiac muscle fibers that conduct electrical impulse from AV node to R atrium and septum
What are the purkinje fibers?
- branches after the bundle of His (from the AV node)
- Send nerve impulses to cells in the heart ventricles causing them to contract
What nerve innervates the heart?
Parasympathetic fibers from Vagas (X) -mostly affects SA node -decrease HR -decrease force of contractions -dilate coronary vessels Sympathetic fibers come from sympathetic ganglionic chain (T1-T5) -increase HR -increases force of contractions -constricts vessels
Where is the tricuspid valve?
B/t R atrium and R ventricle
*remember to “tri before you bi”
Where is the bicuspid (mitral) valve?
b/t L atrium and L ventricle
Where is the pulmonary semilunar valve?
b/t the Right ventricle and pulmonary arter
Where is the aortic semilunar valve?
b/t the L ventricle and the aorta
What is the order of the cardiac conduction system?
SA node–>AV node–>bundle of His–>purkinjie fibers
