Pulmonary circulation Flashcards
1
Q
What does this type of circulation do?
A
Carries blood that contains carbon dioxide to the lungs to get rid of it and reload with oxygen
2
Q
Describe all of the steps of pulmonary circulation.
A
- A muscle contraction of the right ventricle pushes the blood through the pulmonic valve and into the pulmonary artery
- From the pulmonary artery to smaller arteries, arterioles, and capillaries
- In the lung, alveoli, red blood cells exchange gasses: they pick up oxygen and release carbon dioxide through diffusion
- The oxygenated blood flows throug capillaries to venules and through the pulmonary veins
- The blood empties into the left atrium
