inflamed visceral and parietal pleura rubbing during inspiration
Dahl’s sign

Dyssynchronous movement of chest and abdomen (bilateral diaphragmatic paralysis)
diaphragm contracts but chest wall moves inward due to denervation
Stridor
Correlates with
ausulatory inspiratory squeaks and or rhonchi heard over trachea
Narrowing of airway above thoracic outlet (laryngeal edema)

Volume loss toward shift
inc intrapleural presure on side away from shift
Suprasternal notch
atelectasis, resection, tumor
PTX, PE, hemothorax
