The state, which is a self-governing region, often operates and funds public sector organizations, especially in developed and developing countries.
How significant is the public sector in many developed countries?
In most developed countries, the public sector is substantial, with state spending exceeding 40% of the country’s domestic product, and it employs a significant portion of the workforce, such as in the UK where it accounts for around a quarter of all jobs.

-Private sector: Profit-driven businesses.
-Charitable status: Organizations focused on providing benefits, not profit.
-Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs): Entities like Medicins sans Frontiers providing services not easily offered by businesses or the government.
what is the 3rd sector
The “third sector” includes NGOs and charities.
These organizations don’t primarily seek profit or provide state services.
They often have boards of trustees ensuring responsible use of donations.
Some NGOs may receive government funding but operate with autonomy as QuANGOs.
what are the different types of public sector organisations?
Public sector organizations can take various forms and are controlled by the government.
Their objectives can be influenced by political agendas, which vary by country.
For example, universities, healthcare, and schools may be government-funded in some countries and privately funded in others.
what are lobby groups?
In a democratic society, where people have a say in how the country is run, different groups of people try to influence the government’s decisions.
eg. Imagine if you and your friends wanted something specific, like more playgrounds in your neighborhood. You might work together to talk to the people in charge, like your local leaders, to convince them to build more playgrounds.
These groups that try to persuade the government to do something or make certain rules are called “lobby groups.”
They can be for all sorts of things, like better schools, cleaner air, or even more toys for kids.
However, some people worry that the lobby groups with the most money will have the loudest voice and get what they want.
This might not always be fair because it might not be what’s best for everyone. So, while lobby groups are part of our democracy, some people think we should be careful about how much influence they have.
