Q

What are the -ve’s and +ve’s of restricted procedure followed by assessment of design?

A

Client opportunities:
- Design approach and quality is maintained as a key factor in the tender stage
- Reduces risk of the procurement process by ensuring the firms you are talking to have both the design and management skills you need
Client risks:
- Two stage process puts a heavy burden on both client and tenderer to provide detailed information before the selection process
- Removes SME practices from tendering as they are unlikely to have the experience or financial experience the client requires. As a result the opportunity for innovative design may be lost.

Q

What is a consortia?

A

When a small practice forms a relationship with a larger firm to pool experience and skills.

Consortia can allow smaller creative practices to work
with larger firms or contractors, provide an innovative way of drawing
complementary strengths, skills and resources together, and help
talented designed teams to meet previous experience and financial
standing criteria collectively.
