Newborn and infant hearing screening act/Children’s health act
Instated in 1999 as the “newborn and infant hearing screening act” and was later changed in 2000 as “Children’s health act”
No Child Left Behind
Instated in 2001. Looked at flexibility, methods of education, and parental choice. Underfunded.
Individuals with Disability Education Improvement Act
Instated in 2004. Special services provided to those who need them.
Individualized Specific Family Plans
Like IEP’s that are developed for those who need them at birth to three yrs of age.
IEP’s
Section 504 of rehab act. IEP’s don’t always need 504’s and vice versa.
ADA
Those under this participate fully in society, live independently, and have equal opportunity to be self-sufficient through removal of barriers. Any employers with 15 or more employees need accommodations for those who need them in place. Schools, universities, colleges, etc must have rules in place to make educational requirements achievable. Public accommodations, like entertainment, recreation, etc. Telecommunication services.
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
Everyone should have access to affordable healthcare.
