The limbic system develops prior to the prefrontal cortex which explains teens impulsive behaviour

Hypothalamus to the pituitary gland to adrenal gland and gonads. Gonads release testosterone and estradiol which influence mood and thought
Biological sequence
Hypothalamus to hormones to pituitary to adrenal glands and gonads to testosterone and estrogen which cause growth spurt, primary/secondary sex characteristics
Timing
Girls ahead of boys
Malnutrition delays puberty
Stress causes earlier puberty
Early maturation
Girls: teasing, early sexual activity, eating disorders, early substance use
Boys: rebellion, law breaking, stress and depression
Sexual maturation (changes in the body)
Primary:
Parts involved in reproduction (testicles and ovaries)
Secondary:
Not necessary for reproduction (odour, acne, breast development, hair, voice changes)
