PTM Ch. 11 Air Conditioning Flashcards
What is conditioned air?
Bleed air that is cooled in the cooling turbine and the temperature is regulated with hot air in the mixing valve.
Where does the air inside the cabin exit?
Through the pressurization system outflow valve
What is included in the air-conditioning systems?
- Air cycle machine
- Water seperator
- Mixing valve
- Cold-air ducts
- Conditioned air ducts
How many engines and bleed air switches must be on?
One engine with its respective bleed air valve open
What does the Air cycle machine (ACM) contain?
Cooling turbine and an air-to-air heat exchanger
What cools the hot air in the heat exchanger?
Ram air
How much will the cooling turbine cool the pre-cooled air from the heat exchanger?
30-60 dF below OAT
After the ACM, the cold bleed air goes where?
Into a water separator.
Where is some of the dehumidified air expelled?
The eyeball vents. The rest is mixed with hot bleed air from the mixing valve and becomes conditioned air.
What supplies fresh air to the cockpit?
Blower motor
Where is the blower motor located?
Under the left nose baggage compartment floorboard
What prevents the escape of pressurization in the cabin when the blower motor is blowing fresh air into the cabin?
Check valve
When does the blower automatically stop?
When the nose gear retracts
What can bypass the squat switch to use the blower?
OVERRIDE switch
What happens if you use the OVERRIDE switch in pressurized flight?
Lose pressurization.
