Describe the DSM criteria for Schizoaffective disorder

A

A: Criteria of Mood disorder (MDD or Mania) with Criteria A of Schizophrenia ( of delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized behaviour, negative symptoms present for at least one month)

B: Delusions or hallucinations for 2 or more weeks in the absence of a major mood episode (depressive or manic) during the lifetime duration of the illness.

C: Symptoms that meet criteria for a major mood episode are present for the majority of the total duration of the active and residual portions of the illness.

D: The disturbance is not attributable to the effects of a substance (e.g., a drug of abuse, a medication) or another medical condition.

Delusional disorder DSM criteria

A

A: greater than 1 delusion for more than 1 month
B: does not meet criteria A schizophrenia. hallucinations if present are not prominent and are related to delusions
C: functioning is not markedly impaired
D: manic and mdd are brief (this differentiates it from schizoaffective disorder)

rule out schizoaffective, rule out mood disorder with psychotic features

A

A: 2 of delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized behaviour, negative symptoms present for at least one month
B: significant distress/impairment of function
C: Continuous disturbance beyond 6 months, one month of criteria A
D: Schizoaffective and Depression/Bipolar with psychotic features ruled out
