Examples of defence mechanisms

Displacement - satisfy impulse with object e.g punching wall
Regression
Sublimination - satisfy impulse in socially acceptable way e.g joining boxing club
What is transference
Unconscious transfer of feelings and attitudes from the past into the therapist
What is counter transference
Feelings the therapist has in relation to the patient
What is psychodynamic therapy
Presenting problem is understood in the light of past experience
Describe behaviour therapy
Prolonged exposure to anxiety trigger eventually leads to anxiety going up to a lesser degree and anxiety comes down more quickly
