Psychology Flashcards
optic chiasm
an X-shaped structure at the front of
the brain where the information from the right visual field is sent to the left side of the brain, and information from the left visual field is sent to the right side
trichromatic
theory of color vision
all colors in the spectrum can be produced by combining
red, green, and blue
opponent-process theory
color is coded in opponent pairs: black-white, yellow-blue, and green-red
depth
perception
perceiving spatial relationships in a three-dimensional space
(being able to perceive things as being in front, behind, above, below, or to
the side of other things).
binocular cues
relying on the use of both eyes like in binocular disparity (something appearing to shift when closing one eye)
monocular cues
only require one eye to perceive depth like in linear perspective (where we perceive depth when we see two parallel lines that seem to converge in an image)
Motion paralax
apparent motion of stable objects
