2) Give us energy
3) Make us feel better
Example of someone who abuses alcohol
Binge drinker
Binge drinking
Heavy consumption of alcohol over a short period of time (5 or more drinks in a row by men, or 4 or more by women at least once in the previous two weeks)
Heavy binge drinking
3 or more episodes in a week
People who have health problems when they abstain from alcohol
Alcohol dependents
Another form of physical dependence
Overreaction by the brain to drugs
Addiction and poverty
Many poor people are addicted to drugs and alcohol bc they use it to avoid serious problems.
Children of alcoholics are
4 times more likely to be abused as other kids
for first time DUI offenders with a BAL of less than .15, the average cost is
