example: typical psych pt seeking care for suicidal ideation, increaseed anxiety, med managment
what is DEFCON 4
increase intelligence and security
ex. intoxicated, suicidal. cant go home but does not want to be here
What is DEFCON 3
air force ready to mobilize in 15 minutes
ex. pt with hx of schizo actively hallucinating. Non-violent but concern for flight risk
What is DEFCON 2
armed forces ready to deploy and engage in 6 hours
ex. pt that is clearly escalating, fidgeting, pacing. may be hallucinating, watching staff.

nuclear war imminent
ex. pt brough by PD after witnessed psychotic episode with continued violence

what is the treatment of acute psychosis
antipsychotic +/- Benzos
what is the treatment of anxiety
MH eval, F/u place
Lorazepam PO/IV/IM
antipsychotics (haloperidol)
Hydroxizine PO/IV/IM
what is the treatment of bipolar
when manic/hypomanic, can use lithium, valoprate or risperidone

Suicidal Ideation

Affect: how do you feel about that?
Trouble: what troubles you the most about this?
Handling: how are you handling that?
Empathy: that must be very difficult for you

Adolescents through 20s

assess for risk to themselves/others
mental health consult
