Criteria A for schizophrenia
How long must sxs last to be called a delusional disorder?
1 month or more
Greater than or equal to 2 of which sxs must be present during a month period to be called schizophrenia?
Delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized behavior, negative sxs (lack of affect, alogia, etc.)
What percentage of monozygotic twins are affected with schizophrenia?

What is a mixed episode?
Manic behavior, racing thoughts with depressive feelings
How is MDD defined?
Two or more episodes, separated by 2 or more months
What is dysthymia?
Depressed mood most of day, for more days than not, for 2+ yrs
What is bipolar I?
Disorder in which at least one manic or mixed episode occurs
What is bipolar II?
Disorder in which there is at least 1 MDE and at least 1 hypomanic episode, but no history of manic or mixed episode
Can antidepressants by themselves be used to treat bipolar?
No, that should be avoided
Why must bipolar treatment be done extremely carefully?
Because a switch from depression to mania can occur
What is cyclothymia?
The presence of numerous periods of hypomanic and depressive sxs for > or = 2 yrs, no MDE, manic or mixed episodes
What are a couple of treatments for delirium?
Low dose risperidone, diazepam
Dementia is defined by a memory impairment plus > or = to 1 of the following?
Aphasia, apraxia, agnosia, executive functioning disturbance
What are a couple of treatments for dementia?
Cholinesterase inhibitors (rivastigmine, donepezil), antipsychotics (risperidone), antidepressants
