Pseudomonas spp. Flashcards
1
Q
In which way is Pseudomonas intrinsically resistant to a number of antimicrobials?
A
Due the low permeability of the outer membrane
and chromosomally encoded antibiotic efflux pumps
2
Q
How can Pseudomonas acquire resistance to antimicrobials?
A
1) The induction of b-lactamase and aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes.
2) Mutations in the genes encoding topoisomerase II (gyrA and gyrB) and IV (parC and parE).
3) Diminished expression of outer membrane proteins and the upregulation of the genes encoding efflux pumps.
