A
Calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition in cartilge, causing inflammation and seronegative arthropathy

Sx of CPPD?
A
Pain, redness, swelling of joints in OA like pattern.
Chronic is similar to OA.

What conditions are associated with CPPD?
A
Haemochromatosis
Low Mg
Hyperparathyroidism
Hypothryoidism

What are Ix for CPPD?
A
Joint aspirate (+ve rhomboid shape crystals)
Bloods: Ca and PTH, thyroid, iron studies, Mg
Imaging: cartilage calcification

Q
Rx of CPPD?
A
Aspirate joint fluid
Intra-articular steroids
NSAIDs and colchicine
May need systemic steroids
Joint replacement if recurrence
