What are Phobias?

A

A Phobia is an immediate feeling of intense fear, anxiety and panic when exposed to or even thinking about the source of the fear.
Awareness that your fears are unreasonable or exaggerated but feeling powerless to control them. Worsening anxiety as the situation or object gets closer to you in time or physical proximity.

A person’s phobia is defined by their irrational thinking towards the object or situation.

    e. others, such as choking, vomiting, loud noises or clowns.

Obsessive Compulsve Disorder is a disorder characterized by repititive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and irrational, excessive urges to do certain actions (compulsions.)
Although people with OCD may know that thier thoughts and behaviors dont make logical sense, they’re unable to stop them.

What are the causes of OCD?

A
  1. Compulsions are learned behaviors, which become repititive and habitual when they are associated with relief from anxiety.
  2. OCD is due to genetic and hereditary factors.
  3. Chemical, structural, functonal abnormalities in the brain are the cause.
  4. Distorted beliefs reinforce and maintain symptoms associated with OCD.
