What are the 4 common complaints of a patient that has an existing denture?

A

Fit - loose (unretentive), tight, rocking

Appearance - tooth colour (shade), tooth shape (mould), tooth position, metal components visible.

Function - unable to bite, chew, talk properly

Damaged - fractures or missing teeth

What will you focus on during an intra-oral examination of a denture patient? (6)

A

Soft tissue - healthy (i.e. denture related stomatitis)

Teeth / roots present

Teeth missing - kennedy classification

Condition of teeth - perio, caries, endo, toothwear, hygiene

Position of teeth - mobility, overeruption, tilting, drifting

State of ridges - degree of resorption (affect retention on acrylic)
