A set of rules that govern the transmission of data

what does HTTP(S) stand for and what does it do
Hyper Text transfer protocol (secure) - is used to access web pages (some require communications to be encrypted)
what does FTP stand for and what does it do
file transfer protocol governs the transfer of data between the client and server
what does IP stand for and what does it do
internet protocol - helps address data across the internet
what does IMAP stand for and what does it do
internet messaging access protocol - controls the receiving emails and stores them on a server so that they can be accessed from any device
what does TCP stand for and what does it do
transmission control protocol - breaks down data into packets ready to be sent
what does SMTP stand for and what does it do
simple mail transfer protocol - sends mail over a network
what does POP stand for and what does it do
Post office protocol - stores received emails on the device and deletes them from the server
give the 8 steps, in order, for the packet switching process
- request processed by web server
- request put into packets
- packets are given address and number
- packets sent
- packets received
- check if all packets have arrived
- if not resend packets
- if yes put packets in order and view content
