protein synthesis Flashcards
What is produced as a result of transcription ?
mRNA is produced in the nucleus
What enzyme allows transcription to take place?
RNA polymerase
What does RNA polymerase bind to in transcription?
RNA polymerase binds to the locus of the target gene
what does RNA polymerise do to DNA strands?
RNA polymerase binds to DNA and breaks the hydrogen bonds between the two DNA strands
How is the separation of DNA strands in transcription different to the separation of DNA strands in DNA replication?
in DNA replication DNA helicases separates DNA strands and exposes the bases whereas in transcription RNA polymerase breaks the hydrogen bonds between the two strands
what does RNA polymerase bind free-floating RNA nucleotides to?
to the template strand complimentary to the base sequence of the target gene

what do RNA nucleotide form?
RNA nucleotide form a strand of mRNA that is complimentary to the template strand.
