Protein Production and Secretion Flashcards
What is the first step?
Proteins are made at the ribosomes.
In this first step, how are the proteins made?
Ribosomes attached to the RER make proteins that are excreted or attached to the cell membrane.
What is the second step?
Proteins enter the RER where they are folded and processed.
After this second step, what hen happens to them?
Are then transported to the Golgi in vesicles.
What is the third step?
At the golgi, proteins are further modified and repackaged.
After this third step, what then happens?
Are then transported to the plasma membrane in vesicles.
What is the final step?
The vesicle fuses with the membrane and the protein is secreted by exocytosis.
What is the order of the organelles involved?
-RER
-Golgi Body
-Vesicles
Cell Wall/Cells Membrane
What is the cytoskeleton?
A network of protein threads that run through the cytoplasm.
What does the cytoskeleton provide for the cell?
Mechanical strength, aiding transport within cells and enabling cell movement.
In eukaryotic cells, what do the protein threads consist of?
Microfilaments and Microtubules.
