Protein production Flashcards
What is the first step of protein production
Proteins are made at the ribosomes
Where do proteins made by ribosomes at the RER go?
They are excreted or attached to the cell membrane
Where do proteins made by ribosomes free in the cytoplasm go?
They stay in the cytoplasm
What is the second step of protein production?
New proteins produced are the RER are folded and packaged in the RER
What is the third step of protein production?
The folded and packaged proteins are transported from the RER to the golgi apparatus in transport vesicles
What is the fourth step of protein production?
At the golgi, the proteins may undergo further processing (e.g, sugar chains are trimmed or added)
What is the final step of protein production?
The proteins enter more vesicles (transport vesicles) to be transported around the cell, e.g, glycoproteins (found in mucus) move to the cell surface by secretion.
