A
Growth of wider range of plants especially in heated environment.
Earlier crops - either by starting plants in protected environment or keeping them in there throughout their life.
Raising half-hardy plants eg. Bedding.
Raising large numbers of seeds.
Hardening of half hardy plants.
Propagation from seed and cuttings.
Extended season of food crops.
Year round display.

Greenhouses.

A

Larger greenhouse has more even temperature.
Lots of different shapes.
Site in open position in sheltered site with good access and services.
Orientation - north and south for even light distribution (although east to west is best for winter light)

Cold Frames

A

Sloping box with glass or plastic lid that can be opened on supports or removed
Use to harden off plants, root hardwood cuttings, grow out of season crops, over winter hardy plants in pots and bring on young plants.
Site south-east or south-west facing, not directly south.
