What is prostatitis? And which is the most common?
Prostatitis is inflammation of prostate
And abacterial prostatitis is the most common one
Types of prostatitis
Acute bacterial prostatitis =E.coli
Chronic bacterial prostatitis=Recurrent UTI
Chronic abacterial prostatitis=most common
What are the clinical findings of prostattitis?
Fever(in acute form)
Lower abdominal pain
Painful,swollen gland
Dysuria(painful urination)
Hematuria
What is BPH?
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
It is characterised by stromal and glandular proliferation resulting in prostatic hyperplasia
More common in men over 50 yrs of age
What is the primary and co mediator of BPH?
Primary mediator is DHT(dihydrotestosterone) and co mediator is estrogen
Most common site for BPH?
Transitional zone of prostate(firm nodules )
Clinical features of BPH?
Nocturia
Dysuria
Difficulty in starting and stopping urine
Dribbling
Incomplete emptying which leads to infection
Hematuria
Treatment of BPH
Alpha blockers = tamsulosin
5 alpha reductase inhibitors = finasteride
TURP = transurethral resection of prostate
