PROS Theory Flashcards
The process of connecting an entity to an occurrence to establish a relationship
Linking
Once an entity has been linked to an occurrence, how long does the user have to delete that link?
7 days
After 7 days, how does the entity have to be deleted?
It cannot be deleted by the PROS user; it has to be removed by the records manager.
What are the 2 types of PROS installations?
Desktop & Mobile
What is SAMM?
x2
- Status and messaging module
- a component of PROS mobile
What does SAMM allow?
x2
- Allows for Computer Aided Dispatch as well as access to CPIC, CFRO and other databases.
- will also allow for tracking of GPS equipped police vehicles
BOLO
Be on the lookout - a type of flag functionality in PROS to alert end users to persons, vehicles or other entities where police action is required.
CAD
Computer Aided Dispatch
CIIDS
Computerized Integrated Information Dispatch System
CPIC
x3
Canadian Police Information Centre
- a national index of convictions used by all police forces in Canada.
- PROS accesses this database electronically
Represents a separate person, property, vehicle, address, phone number, task, report, etc.
Entity
A PROS functionality which marks or tags specific activities in PROS (e.g. BOLO, caution, warrants)
Flag
The process of making sure that there is only one entity in the database representing that unique referenced entity
Master-filing
The union or combining of any two database entities into one entity, thus eliminating duplicate entries. No new entries are created by this process.
Merging
The recording of an incident in PROS following a call for service or police activity
Occurrence
An entity (except street checks and occurrences) not linked directly or indirectly to an occurrence
Orphan entity
PROS
Police Reporting and Occurrence System
an occurrence that is still under investigation
Reportable
RMS
Records Management System
A request for work to be done by a PROS user including diary date notifications
Task
PROS is the RMS used by the Force in all divisions except for where?
British Columbia
What is a Records Management System?
a computer software program that allows the RCMP to manage the investigational information it collects
What are some advantages of PROS?
1) Investigations can be viewed by any person having access to the system
2) All 15,000 fields in the PROS system are searchable, it’s much easier and faster to access information that may assist in an investigation
3) allows supervisors to more effectively manage their human resources.
4) facilitates efficient statistical reporting
5) allows you to access multiple databases from a single query screen
What are the 3 protective security markings used in PROS?
- Protective A, B, C
To ensure that the PROS system is as secure as possible, what should you ensure prior to logging in on PROS?
that you have closed (not just minimized) all Internet browsers
A geographic area and will be the division/province you are posted to after training - it appears in the Access Control Window when you log into PROS
Domain
ACW
Application Control Window
All information that is added to PROS by RCMP members is what?
master-filed within the RCMP domain
RBAC
Role Based Access Control
Your access to and within PROS is controlled by what?
your RBAC - each PROS user is assigned at least one, but may have more than one RBAC
What does the RBAC recognize?
x2
- your role in the RCMP and the type of things you need to do.
- it determines what you are allowed to see and do in PROS
The screen you will see after successfully logging into PROS
Application Control Window
What is the ACW also referred as?
Launch Pad
What do all data entry processes begin with?
either a “fast find’ or “detailed find” window
Why do all data entry processes begin with a “fast find” or detailed find” window?
to ensure that operators first run a search to see if an entity already exists in the database
Conducted when you have specific and accurate data on the topic to be searched
Fast Find
conducted when you have extensive data on the topic to be searched and allows you to search on a wider base of criteria
detailed find
